St Ives is one of the most beautiful towns in the country, surrounded by the sea and with four sandy beaches ......

Porthminster, Porthmeor, Porthgwidden and The Harbour beaches are only a short walk away - click on the image (below right) for a map.

The town is also known across the world as one of the birthplaces of modern art. There are dozens of galleries including the world class Tate St Ives, Barbara Hepworth Museum and Leach Pottery.

There is also a huge range of shops and restaurants for all tastes. The local theatre and cinema are right next door. All of these are within a short walk of the Western.

Tate St Ives
The town's own world class gallery located in an amazing setting on Porthmeor Beach. Exhibitions change through the year with a mixture of St Ives artists and works from the Tate collection.

Whether you enjoy the art is a matter of taste and depends on the current exhibition. In any case it is worth visiting just for the stunning architecture and setting. You can enter the shop, cafe and roof terrace for free.

Barbara Hepworth Sculpture Garden
Hepworth, who died in 1975, asked in her will that Trewyn Studios and the adjacent garden, with a group of her sculptures placed as she wished, be permanently open to the public.

Visiting the Museum and Garden is a unique experience, which gives remarkable insight into the work and outlook of one of Britain's most important twentieth-century artists.

Art courses and workshops including watercolours, life drawing, collage, abstraction, portraits, landscapas and monoprinting.

Friendly and individual tuition by practising artists. Gain fresh ideas and new skills in various media. Most courses include all materials. Spacious old studios at centre of artists’ colony, a short walk from The Western.

The Cornish Deli
If you want fantastic quality local meats, cheeses, seafood, fruit and vegetables, snacks and regional specialities, the Cornish Deli is for you.

Incorporated with the Cornish Deli, is the The Deli Cafe offering hot and cold drinks, brunches, lunches and afternoon tea, with Lavazza coffee.

Taxis

DJ Cars
If you need a taxi to bring you to The Western from the airport or station call DJs. They offer an excellent local service and are 100 % reliable.

They can also take you on a full or half day scenic tour of the local area or run you to local attractions such as Paradise Park or Flambards.

Entertainment

Royal Cinema
A three screen picture house in the centre of town which shows all the main new releases, with both matinees and evening shows. They also host Penwith Film Society who show less commercial productions.

The front section of the main screen has recently been refurbished with extra-large West End style seats, so get their early to grab these. For kids - look out for their bargain shows which include a free drink and popcorn. Right next door to The Western.

Home to youth theatre company Kidz R Us, which stages musical theatre productions.

The theatre also occasionally stages other theatre productions and live music.
